It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
